2nd-6th grade - BOYS AND gIRLS
West University United Methodist Church, “WUM”, will be changing its Youth Basketball program for 2023 - 2024 season. West University Baptist Church, “WUB”, and WUM are partnering to start a program similar to the UCAL League but will operate under a new entity named West University Youth Basketball League, “West U YBL”. Current plans are for all practices and games to be played at either WUM, WUB, or the Weekley Family YMCA, “YMCA”. The League will be open for youth boys and girls in 2nd grade through 6th grade. The West U Youth Basketball League will emphasize sportsmanship, fundamental basketball skills, and teamwork in a Christian-based environment.
Parents and volunteeerswill coach the single-grade boys and girls teams. The League will provide game jerseys, basketballs, and referees and scorekeepers for all games. Most practices will be held on Saturdays and games will be played on weeknights. Each team will play a minimum of six games. Players do not need to reside in West University Place. Teams should consist of players who are friends or go to school together, and the objective is to have teams with relatively balanced basketball skills. Each grade level will require a minimum of four teams for each grade/gender. We are currently very limited in gym space, so it will be necessary to cap the number of players in each grade level. The season will conclude in late January 2024.

UCAL Volleyball
UCAL Volleyball is for 3rd-6th grade girls. From the UCAL website: “The goal of our league is to provide every girl with a fun experience and to help them develop their skills in a positive Christian environment. Volleyball is a difficult sport that requires skills that can be acquired over time. We want to provide an atmosphere where all the girls have the opportunity to develop their skills as they get older.
The volleyball season will begin in February.
