UCAL is a program designed for all youth the opportunity to learn sportsmanship, teamwork, and fundamental basketball skills as part of a Christian community.  The program encourages its participants to

  • play hard,
  • gain an appreciation for the game and
  • develop friendships through fellowship with other athletes.

The United Church Athletic League (UCAL) was founded by River Oaks Baptist Church, St. Anne’s Catholic Church, St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, and St. Luke’s United Methodist Church to provide individuals (children and youth) who share an inherent interest in organized sports, a league whose primary purpose is to promote the spirit of Christian community and reflect the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. UCAL encourages cooperation and embraces the concept that everyone plays, has an opportunity to learn and receives encouragement. UCAL encourages its participants to play hard, play for fun, and reflect the same faith taught and preached from our classrooms and pulpits, while playing in our gyms and on our fields.[1]

UCAL offers the following programs for area youth:

  • soccer
  • basketball
  • volleyball
  • baseball

West U. Methodist participates only in the UCAL basketball program, and has typically one of the largest basketball enrollments. WUM  has representation on the UCAL Board of Directors.
